Avenue of Flags - Memorial Day 2013

On Memorial Day I took Gianna to Orange Grove Cemetery where the city was celebrating the holiday in quite an impressive way.  That morning at 6am...volunteers put up 888 flags flanking the winding road throughout the graveyard.  It was impressive, to say the least.  Each flag belonged to a family who lost a military family member.  It had laid on his/her casket at one point.  Families loan their flag for this specific event and then it returned to them. Some are local but the rest are from all over the country.  This is the largest display of these military flags in the entire United States.

Gianna was quick to spot the 'royalty' and ask for a picture.

Let's add the Mayor of Lake Charles for good measure....
 More royalty...

There was a moving service that was part of the morning.  It was hot already - so it seemed a little long to a little four year old.  She was a quite a trooper though.

We saw Aunt Marcia at the event.  She is largely responsible for our adoption of Gianna. Indebted, to say the least.
Gianna walked up to this decorated soldier and asked if he'd like to take a picture.  I wish I had half the confidence she does.
